Maynard and Vullo New Insurance Commissioners Kentucky & New York

Brian Maynard and Maria Vullo are the newest state insurance commissioners (1/22/2016).  [Blogger’s Note: April 2017 Commissioner Maynard resigned and Nancy Atkins was appointed KY Commissioner.]

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has named Brian Maynard as the new Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Insurance, replacing Commissioner Sharon Clark.

Mr. Maynard is a certified financial examiner and has been a contract examiner for the Kentucky Department since 2004.  Prior to that he worked for INS Regulatory Insurance Services, a company that represents state insurance departments in Texas, Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Delaware. He also served as second vice president of accounting for New Era Life Insurance Company and served in supervisory, consultant or accounting roles for The Freedom Group, United Group Insurance Companies and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest. Maynard is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in accounting. In addition to being a certified financial examiner, he also received the AIRC (Associate, Insurance Regulatory Compliance) designation from LOMA (formerly the Life Office Management Association), an international trade association for the insurance and financial services industry.

New York Governor Cuomo nominated Maria Vullo as Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services, to replace Benjamin Lawsky.

Maria Vullo is an experienced senior litigator and manager, with more than 25 years of practice in business litigation and investigations. She is of counsel at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where she was a partner for 20 years. She previously oversaw the Economic Justice Division in the Office of the New York State Attorney General, with a staff of approximately 200.
