Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier Resigns After serving Six Years

| Dec 16, 2022 | Altmaier, commissioner, Florida, insurance, Insurance Commissioner, insurance regulation, insurance regulators, Office of Insurance Regulation

The landmark legislation for the Florida property insurance market that passed the Florida Senate on December 12, 2022, is most likely the final major accomplishment for Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier who submitted his resignation on December 15 (effective December 28, 2022).  Commissioner Altmaier has served as commissioner since 2016 and was the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ 2021 President.   Altmaier, a former insurance agent and a high-school math teacher, quickly demonstrated his acumen at leading the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, which oversees one of the largest insurance markets in the country.  He is well-respected by his colleagues and by those he regulates, with whom he has earned a reputation as being direct, professional and fair.
