The Virginia State Corporation Commission has appointed Scott White Commissioner of the Virginia Bureau of Insurance effective January 1, 2018. He succeeds the retiring Jacqueline Cunningham. The bureau licenses, regulates, investigates and examines insurance companies, agencies and agents on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia with a staff of about 195 state employees. The Bureau of Insurance oversees 2,400 insurers that do business in Virginia and holders of about 248,000 insurance agent and insurance agency licenses, with an annual budget of around $27 million.
White is currently the deputy general counsel for financial services at the State Corporation Commission general counsel’s office and is already engaged in overseeing insurance issues. He started working at the commission in 1999.
