Kaj Samsom Appointed Vermont Insurance Commissioner

Kaj Samsom has been appointed by Vermont Governor Scott as the new commissioner of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation. Prior to his March 31, 2025, appointment as DFR Commissioner, Mr. Samsom served as chief auditor and Director at the National Life Group. Prior to that position in the private sector he served in many public sector jobs, including His professional background includes more than 14 years of experience in state government serving in various roles and capacities. Mr. Samsom Examiner in the Vermont Insurance Department in 2006; Director of the Insurance Division Licensing and Examinations section of the Insurnce Department in 2011; Deputy Commissioner of the Insurance Division in 20114, and he served as State Tax Commissioner from 2017 to 2019. He is a certified public accountant and a certified financial examiner, and holds a Bachelors of Science as well as a Masters in Public Administration, both from the University of Vermont.
