John Elias, the former Assistant Commissioner of Insurance in New Hampshire, was approved in May by the New Hampshire Executive Counsel as Commissioner of Insurance after he was nominated by Governor Chris T. Sununu. He replaced Commissioner Roger Sevigny who retired after a distinguished career in the position for 16 years.
Elias’ experience in the insurance industry includes seven years at Westfield Insurance Company, focusing on employment insurance, more than 6 years at Safe Auto Insurance Company as Vice President of Underwriting, and some period of time as Vice President of Great Falls Insurance Company before coming to the New Hampshire Insurance Department to serve as Property & Casualty Director in January 2016. Elias was appointed Assistant Commissioner in April 2016, where he oversaw the Property & Casualty Unit, Fraud Unit and Business Unit.
