Mark Fowler, who has been serving a as Alabama’s Acting Insurance Commissioner since the retirement of Commissioner Jim Ridling in July of 2022, has been appointed as Insurance Commissioner by Governor Ivey. Fowler was Chief of Staff of the Department of Insurance prior to being appointed Acting Insurance Commissioner. Fowler joined the department in 2013, serving in the roles of Government Relations Manager, then Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner. During that time, he helped shepherd more than 40 bills through the Alabama Legislature. Fowler is an Auburn University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications and holds a Master of Political Science degree from Auburn University Montgomery.
