Mike Yaworsky named to be the next Commissioner of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation

Michael Yaworsky is taking over as commissioner of Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation after being appointed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as interim insurance commissioner, replacing Commissioner David Altmaier who stepped down in December. Yaworsky, was Altmaier’s chief of staff from 2017 to December 2021, at which time he became the vice chair of the Florida Gaming Control Commission.  He will serve as interim insurance commissioner pending his anticipated approval as Commissioner by the Florida Financial Services Commission.

 

In addition to his previous work with OIR, Yaworsky was legal counsel to the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. He’s also served as counsel to the Georgia Senate President Pro Tempore and a chief of staff at the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

 

Yaworsky has a bachelor’s degree in social science from Florida State University and a law degree from Samford University in Alabama. He has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 2014.
